Raffles Girls School Visit 28 September 20261 min read

Returning to Singapore is always deeply personal for me—it is a place that holds a very special place in my heart. Standing in front of the brilliant young minds at Raffles Girls’ School was a moment of true privilege and reflection.

RGS is renowned for shaping exceptional high achievers and future leaders, but with high ambition often comes intense self-imposed pressure. Drawing on my journey as both a doctor and a patient following a catastrophic spinal cord injury, I shared my story of recovery and the hard-won lessons that reshaped my definition of success. I spoke about the reality of overcoming life’s most sudden setbacks—not by pushing harder or masking struggle with perfectionism, but by learning how to rebuild with adaptability, self-compassion, and authentic resilience.

We also tackled a crucial conversation that high achievers often face early in life: burnout. Through the lens of neuroscience and lived experience, I shared why sustainable peak performance requires balancing drive with emotional wellbeing and psychological safety. True strength isn’t about enduring chronic stress until you empty your tank; it’s about knowing how to recharge and lead yourself with care.

Looking out at these driven, compassionate young women—true Daughters of a Better Age—I was inspired by their openness, thoughtful questions, and eagerness to build a healthier relationship with achievement. I left RGS deeply grateful for the opportunity to connect with the next generation of leaders in a city I hold so dear.
